BMW Group Australia is pleased to announce Israel Folau as the newest BMW Wallabies ambassador.

The first Australian Rugby Player to have won consecutive John Eales Medals for Wallabies Player of the Year (2014 and 2015), Israel Folau is one of Australia’s most recognisable and sought after personalities, both domestically and internationally – the perfect ambassador for the luxury marque.

Folau joins other BMW Wallabies ambassadors including Wallabies Fly Half Bernard Foley, who was announced earlier this month, and ex-Wallabies Captain Stirling Mortlock.

BMW Group Australia general manager of marketing, Stuart Jaffray, is thrilled to extend BMW’s support of Rugby Union in Australia.

“We’re really excited to welcome Israel Folau to the BMW team,” said Jaffray.

“He’s a sensational player and person who will be a great ambassador for BMW Australia,” he said.

Folau is looking forward to starting the season with BMW’s backing.

“It’s a privilage to have BMW’s support in rugby union, both on and off the field,” said Folau.

“Its great to partner with one of the worlds most renowned brands and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of my new BMW!” he said.

BMW Group Australia introduces the refreshed 4 Series model range, available in dealerships from late-May.

Available across Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible body styles, the 2016 BMW 4 Series updates boast upgraded petrol engines, enhanced specification, sharper pricing and new model designations.

The BMW 4 Series range commences with the familiar 420i and 420d variants. They are joined by new 430i and 440i models, succeeding the previous 428i and 435i range toppers.

BMW 420i and 420d
Commencing from $68,900*, the 420i Coupe and Gran Coupe variants benefit from a $2,200 price reduction over the previous model. Opting for the $85,900* 420i Convertible realises a $2,500 saving.

All 420i models gain Adaptive M Suspension, Head-Up Display, Exterior Mirrors with Fold-in Function, Lane Change Warning, Driving Assistant and Surround View with Top and Side Views as standard.

The additional features build on an already-comprehensive specification, including:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Eight-speed sports automatic transmission
  • Rear-view camera
  • Electric Dakota sports leather seats with memory function
  • Bi-Xenon headlights
  • Front and rear Park Distance Control
  • Navigation System Professional with RTTI
  • BMW ConnectedDrive Emergency call and TeleServices
  • BMW ConnectedDrive Lifestyle package
  • Extended smartphone connectivity
  • DAB+ digital radio

Sport or Luxury lines are available on the 420i for no additional cost; the M Sport Package is optionally available.

Under the bonnet, the 135kW/270Nm TwinPower 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine has been further refined to improve efficiency. Fuel consumption is reduced to 5.8L/100km for Coupe and Gran Coupe (down from 6.1L/100km and 6.3L/10km respectively), and 6.2L/100km for the Convertible (down from 6.4L/100km).

The BMW 420d range is available from $71,200* in Coupe and Gran Coupe guise, representing a $2,200 price reduction. The 420d Convertible presents a $2,500 saving, now priced from $88,200*, and shares the same improved specification levels of the 420i range.

Producing 140kW/400Nm from its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, the 420d variants reflect the same improved specification levels as the 420i range. Fuel consumption is 4.3L/100km for 420d Coupe and Gran Coupe, or 4.7L/100km in the 420d Convertible.

BMW 430i
Succeeding the previous BMW 428i is the sporty 430i, priced from $79,900* in Coupe or Gran Coupe body style and from $96,900* in Convertible form. Both reflect a $2,500 price reduction.

The BMW 430i gains an additional 5kW over its predecessor, taking the TwinPower 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine to 185kW/350Nm. Significantly, fuel consumption reduces to 5.8L/100km (down 0.6L/100km) in closed-roof versions and 6.3L/100km (down 0.4L/100km) for the 430i Convertible.

Standard specification now includes the M Sport Package as standard to the 430i. The Luxury line, which includes the sumptuous BMW Individual Leather Dashboard, remains available as a no-cost option.

The 430i also gains the following in addition to the 420i:

  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Comfort Access
  • Electric lumbar support to driver and passenger seats
  • Nine-speaker HiFi loudspeaker system
  • M Sport Package offered as a no-cost option

BMW 440i
Sitting at the top of the enhanced 4 Series range is the BMW 440i, supplanting the 435i.

Priced from $99,900* in Coupe and Gran Coupe form, the 440i is priced $10,000 lower than its predecessor. The 440i Convertible is priced at $117,900*, a $10,100 reduction.

Befitting its status at the top of the 4 Series range, all 440i variants are powered by a TwinPower 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine. Peak power rises 15kW to 240kW, and peak torque climbs a significant 50Nm to 450Nm. The benchmark 0-100km/h sprint is now achieved in 5.0 seconds in the 440i Coupe, a 0.1 second reduction.

Impressively, fuel consumption is reduced to 6.8L/100km (down 0.6L/100km) for BMW 440i Coupe and Gran Coupe body styles, and 7.2L/100km (down 0.5L/100km) for the 440i Convertible. This enables the closed-roof 440i variants to qualify for a reduced rate of Luxury Car Tax.

The BMW 440i also gains the following in addition to the 430i:

  • Variable sport steering
  • Harman/Kardon surround sound system with 16 speakers
  • BMW Individual leather instrument panel (with M Sport Package)
  • Heated front seats
  • Parking Assistant
  • Active Cruise Control
  • Adaptive LED Headlights
  • Concierge Services
  • Internet
  • Air collar (440i Convertible)

BMW also aims to reduce maintenance costs for the 4 Series, with all maintenance requirements controlled by the Condition Based Servicing (CBS) system.

With CBS, sensors and advanced algorithms monitor and calculate the conditions in which a vehicle is used, including mileage, time elapsed since its last service, fuel consumption and how a vehicle is driven.

Based on the information captured, maintenance requirements are determined, identifying whether an annual vehicle inspection or oil service is due.

Selected BMW service and maintenance costs can be covered by a single, one-off advance payment with BMW Service Inclusive (BSI), which is available in two packages: Basic or Plus.

The launch of the all-new BMW M2 Coupe offers a new generation of customers access to high performance M brand driving pleasure.

Building upon the success of the limited edition 1 Series M Coupe sold here in 2011, the M2 Coupe carries all the hallmarks that have defined BMW’s M brand – originally established to oversee the company’s racing operations – for over 40 years.

With its purposeful athletic styling, a powerful straight six turbo engine and dynamic handling tuned and tested on Germany’s legendary Nurburgring racetrack, the M2 Coupe continues BMW’s tradition of producing outstanding compact sports cars that stretch back through icons like the E30 M3 to the original BMW 2002 Turbo.

Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Australia, Marc Werner, said Australians have long embraced BMW’s M cars with enthusiasm and with the launch of the M2 Coupe, high performance driving pleasure was now available to even more customers.

“With prices starting from only $89,900, the two-door M2 Coupe brings a whole world of BMW M race-bred performance, stunning design and dynamic driving characteristics to a new generation of customers,” Mr Werner said.

“Its impressive performance, powerful styling, extensive standard equipment and attractive price point ensures the M2 Coupe sets a new benchmark for compact sports cars offering enormous appeal for driving enthusiasts.”

The BMW M2 Coupe is available in two variants – M2 Pure and M2 – that both feature a powerful 272kW/465Nm 3.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine for immediate and responsive power delivery.

Driving through the rear wheels, the engine in the M2 Pure is mated to a slick shifting six-speed manual gearbox with the M2 fitted with BMW’s seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) with Drivelogic and Integrated Launch Control function as standard, with the manual gearbox offered as a no-cost option.

This advanced powertrain enables the BMW M2 Coupe to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.3 seconds when fitted with the M DCT, or 4.5 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox, before going on to a limited top speed of 250km/h.

The M2 Coupe not only excels in straight line speed however, and complementing the high performance powertrain is a lightweight M Sport Suspension package (non-adaptive), Driving Experience Control with a bespoke M Dynamic Mode function, electronically-controlled limited slip Active M Differential, M compound brakes and M-tuned Electric Power Steering for superb agility, traction and handling.

Reflecting the car’s sports performance, the design of the BMW M2 Coupe emphasises its athletic agility with its muscular coupe proportions combining a short front overhang, sweeping bonnet, long wheelbase and setback glasshouse.

At the front, the prominent M double-spoke kidney grille neatly integrates with the twin circular bi-Xenon headlights and low-slung front apron, with its large air inlets featuring distinctive trapezoidal blades and BMW Air Curtains. The bold sharp lines of the front end continue across the sculpted bonnet and down the car’s flanks.

Characteristic M quad exhausts and an integrated diffuser element in the rear apron accentuate the car’s low wide stance while the subtle boot-lid spoiler further enhances its sporty aerodynamics.

Maintaining BMW’s trademark driver orientation, the four-seater interior features a number of M design highlights such as black Dakota leather front sports seats with blue contrast stitching, an embossed M logo in the backrest, and adjustable side bolsters.

Further increasing its sporty ambience, the cabin of the M2 Coupe also features carbon fibre trim, leather-wrapped M three-spoke steering wheel with gearshift paddles and M logos on the gearshift and door sills.

As the range-topping model in the 2 Series lineup, the BMW M2 Coupe incorporates an extensive list of standard equipment and BMW ConnectedDrive features for comfort, safety and convenience.

In the M2 Pure, that includes climate control, cruise control with braking function, rear Park Distance Control, Rear View Camera, HiFi sound system with DAB+ digital radio, Navigation system Professional and Driving Assistant features including Lane Departure Warning, and Collision and Pedestrian Warnings with City Braking function.

Added to this, the M2 variant gains Adaptive Headlights, keyless Comfort Access system, Alarm System, electric heated front seats and a Harman/Kardon Surround Sound audio system.

Both BMW M2 Coupe models also feature full Bluetooth connectivity for audio streaming and smartphone functions and with a built-in SIM card, the ConnectedDrive services offer integrated GoPro and M Laptimer apps that can be directly controlled through the car’s iDrive Controller.

BMW ConnectedDrive services also provide access to internet and Concierge Services, BMW TeleServices, Real Time Traffic Information and Intelligent Emergency Call.

All maintenance requirements for the new BMW M2 Coupe range are controlled by the Condition Based Servicing (CBS) system.

BMW M2 Australian Pricing*

BMW M2:                   $98,900

* Manufacturer’s Recommended List Price is shown and includes GST and Luxury Car Tax (LCT) – if applicable, but excludes dealer charges, stamp duty, statutory charges and on-road charges, which are additional and vary between dealers and States/Territories. Design – a visual expression of sheer M driving pleasure

The exterior design of the new BMW M2 Coupe makes no bones about its intent, taking inspiration from BMW M models past and the brand’s involvement in motorsport.

Based on the same architecture as the BMW 2 Series Coupe, the M2 takes that car’s stylish compact coupe proportions and adds M-specific features that not only give it a more muscular and athletic aesthetic but also aid its sports car aerodynamics.

Overall the M2 Coupe is 36mm longer, 80mm wider and 8mm lower than the BMW 220i, sitting on a 2693mm wheelbase with a significantly wider track that has been extended by 58mm at the front and 45mm at the rear.

Much of the extra length comes from the M2’s distinctive front apron with its large air intakes that not only emphasise the car’s wide, road hugging stance but also effectively improve aerodynamics and engine cooling.

Through a combination of the trapezoidal blades and outer Air Curtains, airflow is carefully channelled around and through elements of the car helping to reduce drag by 5 per cent and lift by 35 per cent compared with the 2 Series Coupe, offering significantly improved balance at higher speeds.

Crowning the front apron and flanked by a contemporary take on the BMW twin circular bi-Xenon headlights is the trademark BMW kidney grille with double black vertical bars designed to reflect the large M double-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels.

In side profile, the wide flared wheelarches are connected by a sharp swage line that runs through to the broad rear end with its L-shaped tail lights, subtle boot-lid spoiler and rear bumper with an integrated diffuser sitting atop the characteristic M quad circular tailpipes.

In keeping with the car’s sports performance, the M2 Coupe is available in one solid and three metallic paint finishes that include Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey and Long Beach Blue.

Inside, the sports ambience continues with the palette similarly kept to a minimum. The adjustable bolstered front M sports seats and rear individual seats are upholstered in black Dakota leather with blue contrast stitching and matched with carbon fibre trim and Alcantara door inserts.

This stylish contemporary aesthetic is complemented by a raft of bespoke BMW M highlights including the leather wrapped three-spoke M sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, M logos on the gearshift lever and door sills, and M2 specific dials and needles with a speedo that runs to 300km/h and a rev counter topping out at 8000rpm.

Powertrain – TwinPower Turbo technology tuned for pure performance

Under the long sculpted bonnet of the BMW M2 Coupe sits a state-of-the-art lightweight all-alloy 3.0-litre straight-six M TwinPower Turbo petrol engine that drives the rear wheels.

Combining a TwinScroll turbocharger, High Precision Injection, Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing and VALVETRONIC variable valve control, it generates a maximum power of 272kW at 6500rpm and peak torque of 465Nm across a broad spread from 1400rpm and 5560rpm, with an overboost function pushing torque to 500Nm between 1450rpm and 4750rpm.

When mated to the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT), this powerful engine enables the BMW M2 Coupe to hit 100km/h from standstill in just 4.3 seconds or 4.5 seconds when combined with the six-speed manual gearbox.

At the same time, BMW EfficientDynamics technologies including Auto Start/Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration and intelligent energy management of auxiliary components like the coolant pump, air conditioning compressor and Electric Power Steering, ensure efficient operation with a combined test fuel consumption figure of 7.9l/100km and CO2 emissions of 185g/km with the M DCT and 8.5l/100km and 199g/km of CO2 in the manual version.

Whether driving through the manual gearbox or M DCT, the power delivery in the BMW M2 Coupe is designed to deliver true M model performance.

The six-speed manual gearbox has been fully optimised in the M2 to satisfy the high expectations of sporty drivers with an engagement speed control function that blips the throttle on downshifts and lowers the engine revs on upshifts for smoother, more dynamic gear shifts.

The M DCT takes that to another level with its Drivelogic technology offering a number of M-specific functions.

Working in conjunction with the Driving Experience Control that offers COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes, the transmission provides six driving programs  – three in automatic mode and three in manual mode – that alter the shift dynamics, timing and intensity of gear shifts depending on the mode selected.

An integrated Launch Control function primes the engine for rapid acceleration while the Stability Clutch Control disengages the clutches when necessary to prevent oversteer and enhance stability.

For low-speed manoeuvring in and out of parking spaces, the M DCT also features a “creep on demand” function that with a prod of the accelerator pedal enables the car to slowly creep as it would with an automatic transmission.

More driving excitement in a controlled environment like a race track, is also on offer courtesy of a Smokey Burnout feature that allows a degree of rear wheel spin under initial acceleration.

With an electronically controlled flap in the exhaust system and its trademark quad tailpipes, the M2 Coupe delivers a superb aural soundtrack that varies to match the levels of performance denoted by the driving mode chosen.

Driving dynamics – ultimate agility, precision and control for the road or track

Like all BMW M models, the M2 Coupe is designed to provide outstanding agility, precision and control on the road with a level of focus derived from the company’s motorsport expertise.

In the M2, that is afforded by a combination of the car’s rigid construction, sophisticated front strut and rear five-link M Sports Suspension, dual-mode Electric Power Steering, Active M Differential and specific M-tuned Dynamic Stability Control.

To complement the stiff lightweight aluminium suspension and provide outstanding grip and traction, along with impressive ride comfort, the BMW M2’s 19-inch alloy wheels are shod with low profile mixed-sized Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres with 245/35 ZR 19s on the front and wide 265/35 ZR 19s on the rear.

Further enhancing traction and directional stability is the standard electronically controlled Active M Differential. The limited slip differential uses sensors to continuously analyse a number of parameters and can apply a locking effect of between 0-100 per cent to prevent wheel slip and maximise directional stability.

Under normal driving circumstances, the Active M Differential works in conjunction with the Dynamic Stability Control to minimise any traction losses and improve agility and handling through corners. But as part of the DSC package, the M2 Coupe also offers an M Dynamic Mode that reduces the effect of the DSC resulting in some rear wheel slip and potential oversteer to carry out controlled drifting on a racetrack. The M Dynamic Mode is activated automatically when the Driving Experience Control SPORT+ mode is selected or by a short dab of the DSC button on the centre console.

To provide superb stopping power, the M2 Coupe is fitted with high performance M compound brakes with blue painted four piston callipers at the front and two-piston callipers on the rear. With large 380mm front and 370mm rear perforated and vented cast iron discs, the brakes provide excellent deceleration in all conditions with impressive heat and fade resistance.

Offering precise feel and feedback, the Servotronic Electric Power Steering in the BMW M2 has been tuned with M-specific characteristics that control the level of assistance according to the car’s speed with two settings COMFORT and SPORT/SPORT+ that allow the driver to further refine assistance levels for a particular driving style or personal preference.

BMW ConnectedDrive – fully featured for safety, comfort and entertainment

As a premium compact sports coupe, the M2 offers a generous level of convenience and BMW ConnectedDrive features to deliver the high levels of safety, comfort and entertainment that the company is renowned for.

There is no compromise in terms of safety with the M2 Pure fitted with six airbags, Rear View Camera, rear Park Distance Control, and Dynamic Stability Control incorporating Anti-Lock Braking System, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Dry Braking function and Fading Compensation.

Other standard BMW ConnectedDrive features include Driving Assistant comprising Lane Departure Warning and Collision and Pedestrian Warnings with City Braking function, Navigation system Professional, cruise control with braking function and a comprehensive suite of ConnectedDrive Services and Apps.

With its built-in SIM card, these include access to internet and Concierge Services, automated transmission of service related data through BMW TeleServices, Real Time Traffic Information, Intelligent Emergency Call function and the BMW Remote app functions such as remote locking/unlocking, ventilation control, headlight flash and Google local search and send-to-car function.

For those who like to keep a record of their time behind the wheel, through BMW ConnectedDrive, the M2 Coupe also offers fully integrated GoPro and M Laptimer apps that enable recording of data and video directly through the car’s iDrive Controller that can then be viewed on its 8.8-inch colour display.

The M2 Pure also features full Bluetooth connectivity for audio streaming and safe hands-free phone calls and a high quality HiFi audio system with DAB+ digital radio and USB and auxilliary inputs.

In addition to extensive list of standard equipment in the M2 Pure, the top-of-the-range M2 features even more advanced technology for comfort, convenience and entertainment including keyless Comfort Access system, Adaptive Headlights with High Beam Assist, electric adjustment and heating for the M sport front seats, Alarm System and a Harman/Kardon Surround Sound audio system.

BMW 5 Series

The BMW 5 Series is the world’s most successful business model –

Bestseller for six years and regular winner of reader and expert polls.

Munich. With more than two million vehicles sold, the current BMW 5 Series sets new benchmarks in the premium business segment. Since its market launch in 2010, the sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series has been best in class in terms of design, driving dynamics and efficiency. As a result, it has become the most successful BMW 5 Series generation to date, also clearly leading the world’s bestseller lists in the segment for the last six years. Compared with the previous generation, sales of the current BMW 5 Series have even risen by more than 42 percent.

The BMW 5 Series is in demand worldwide.
Since the start of production in 1972, a total of more than 7.5 million vehicles of the sixth-generation BMW 5 Series have been sold. Therefore, this series is one of the decisive factors in BMW’s success story. Moreover, for six years now, the current generation of the BMW 5 Series has been the market leader in the premium business car segment. Last year alone, more than 347,000 customers worldwide opted for a BMW 5 Series Sedan, a BMW 5 Series Touring or a BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo.

The series owes its extraordinary popularity partly to the wide range of engines. A broad spectrum of powerful and efficient four, six and eight-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are available for the BMW 5 Series. It ranges from the BMW 518d (combined fuel consumption: 4.7- 4.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 124– 114 g/km)* to the extremely dynamic M5 Sedan delivering 412 kW/560 hp (423 kW/575 hp with Competition Package, combined fuel consumption: 9.9 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 231 g/km)*.
